National Infusion Collaborative Welcomes UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation as a Member Organization
The National Infusion Collaborative (NIC) is excited to announce that the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has joined Purdue University, ASHP, and a growing network of healthcare institutions dedicated to advancing the standards and practices of infusion therapy nationwide. This partnership reflects NIC's commitment to building a robust and diverse community of leaders in infusion care, working together to enhance patient outcomes and clinical excellence.
Now at over 500 member hospitals, the NIC is a leader in fostering partnerships among healthcare providers, empowering institutions to share knowledge and collaborate on solutions that enhance patient safety, care delivery, and infusion therapy innovations.
The UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation has an active program of both laboratory and clinically based research on the safety and usability of IV Smart pumps. The IV smart pump lab is led by Dr. Jeannine Blake, RN, PhD, and our clinical partnership with Baystate Medical Center is led by Dr. Cidalia Vital, RN, PhD. Together, this team brings valuable expertise and innovation to the NIC. Through this collaboration, both organizations will work to bring forth the latest research, technology, and best practices to deliver safe and effective care to patients.
"We are pleased to welcome the UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation to the National Infusion Collaborative," said Sean O’Neill, Co-Chair of the NIC. "Their dedication to providing insights into patient care trends with medication technology aligns with our mission to continually improve the standards of infusion pump best practices. Together, we will foster innovation and enhance clinical outcomes for patients nationwide."
"We are excited to join the National Infusion Collaborative and to deepen our collaboration with the growing list of hospitals, universities, and other organizations that are supporting NIC," said Karen Giuliano, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Frank Sup, PhD, Co-Directors of the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation. "This partnership will allow us to continue our commitment to help provide the best possible infusion care to our patients by leveraging the latest innovations and evidence-based practices in the field. We look forward to contributing to and benefiting from this national network of expertise."
The NIC is free to join, and members of the collaborative include inpatient pharmacy, quality, and safety leaders focused on infusion pump data analytics and safety practices. Bainbridge Health, Purdue University, and the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation encourage anyone involved with the oversight of infusion pumps, including patient safety organizations and infusion pump manufacturers, to participate.
